Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept BCBS commercial and medicaid plans, Aetna, and Cigna.  if you have another commercial insurance carrier with out of network benefits, I can also provide you what is called a "superbill" that you submit to your insurance for reimbursement of fees you pay for services.

Will my insurance cover therapy?

Details regarding coverage will vary by insurance carrier as well as your particular plan. I recommend you contact the number on your insurance card to ask them about the specifics of what is covered, and any portion you may be responsible for.

How long does therapy take?

Each therapy session will usually last around 45-50 minutes. Your very first session may be a little longer as it involves a comprehensive assessment.

Do you prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medications, but I can help you find a medication management provider.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I may use various therapeutic modalities, depending on your needs. Some common types of therapy I may incorporate are CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. I have also been trained in EMDR and am working towards my full certification for this highly effective therapy.

How often will I come?

This will depend on your needs and preferences. Most people come every week or every other week. In some cases, you might need to come more than once a week. Once you've made some progress with your goals, you might move down to coming only once a month. The frequency of your sessions is something we will talk about on an ongoing basis.

What will my first session be like?

Going to that first therapy session can feel a little scary, especially if you've never been in therapy and don't know what to expect. Don't worry, I'll be here to help you through each step! The intake assessment (your first session) involves me asking a lot of questions, gathering information, and maybe some symptom assessments so I can determine a diagnosis. After this first session, we'll spend more time doing the fun stuff - processing and exploring emotions, addressing concerns, and building skills!

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with people ages 6 and up who are ready and willing to start making positive changes in their life. I particularly enjoy working with teens. My specialities are anxiety and trauma, although I can also help with depression, adjustment/life transitions, stress, relationship problems, and other issues.
